In years gone by, a manual thermostat was the only option available to keep your home at a comfortable temperature. You would have to walk over to the thermostat on the wall and fiddle with it in order to dial up just the right heating or cooling for your tastes. Fortunately, modern technology has eliminated the need to perform that chore. By installing a programmable thermostat in your home, you can set your system for a comfortable temperature and allow it to take over from there.

There are a number of great advantages to be enjoyed when this type of technology is deployed in your home. Following is a list of five of the best reasons to opt for a programmable thermostat.

#1 – Constant Comfort

As a homeowner, you already know how tricky it can be to keep your home at the right temperature all day long. If you forget to make an adjustment for an hour or so, you may wind up with a home that is significant too hot or too cold for your preferences. Then, you are left to wait in an uncomfortable house while the furnace or air conditioner plays catch up. This will not be a problem with a programmable thermostat. Set the temperature to an appropriate level based on various times of the day and allow the thermostat to do the rest of the work.

#2 – Save Time

If you are stuck with a manual thermostat, you will inevitably have to spend time during your day adjusting the temperature settings in your home. That time could almost certainly be better spent doing something else, so free it up by deploying a programmable thermostat instead.

#3 – Save Money

Perhaps even better than saving time through the use of a programmable thermostat is the financial savings you can enjoy. It is more expensive to run your heating and cooling system when it is constantly recovering from heat spikes and drops – which are inevitable with a manual unit. By opting for a programmable model, you can even out the temperature in your home and your energy costs will come down as a result.

#4 – Leverage Modern Technology

Programmable thermostats represented a leap forward in home technology, but they aren’t even the latest and greatest on the market today. These days, you can purchase ‘smart’ thermostats, which offer Wi-Fi access and a number of modern touches. Most smart thermostats can be accessed through an app on your smartphone, meaning you can adjust the temperature in your home from anywhere with an internet connection. Tired of coming home to a cold home after a vacation? Use a smart thermostat to turn on the furnace while driving home from your journey.

#5 – Energy Efficiency

This point goes along with the point on financial savings, however here we are talking about how you can do your part to reduce energy consumption. If you are someone who is concerned about the welfare of the planet and its resources, using a programmable thermostat is a small way you can help the greater cause.
